Messi scored the only objective from the game on Thursday as 10-man Argentina grinded out the victory against rivals Uruguay, after Paulo Dybala was sent off just before half-time.
The Copa America Centenario runners-up had dominated play up till that point, but were in a position to continue to handle the second half regardless of their disadvantage.
Bauza was full of praise for his Argentina players as the side moved above Uruguay and to the top of your CONMEBOL qualification standings.
“Up till we had 11 players we dominated the game and with our retention of your ball we produced the difference,” he said.
“With a player much less we kept up our play, we just lacked a little out counter attack.
“We won a game that is certainly normally tricky. Uruguay are a difficult rival.”
On Messi, Bauza stated the Barcelona star was playing by way of some pain ahead in the Uruguay fixture and might be a doubt for Tuesday’s away clash against Venezuela.
“Messi played a great game despite his pain,” Bauza added.
“He suffered a groin injury and these know how painful that can be. We’ve got to wait to see if Messi can play against Venezuela.
“In the following 48 hours we’ll understand how he is. But we are going to not threat him.”
As for Dybala’s replacement, Bauza mentioned: “I have two or three possibilities to take his spot. But if Messi is OK, we don’t really need to transform our picture.”
