Even your video games will dispense thoughts on the controversy surrounding Colin Kaepernick.
Madden 17 announced it’ll touch around the 49ers quarterback’s refusal to stand for the national anthem in an update just before the season starts.
The game’s developers previously said there will be commentary updates throughout the season to reflect the real-life NFL landscape. They almost certainly did not count on such a prescient instance so quickly.
“Kaepernick’s decision will be briefly mentioned in-game, reflecting our commitment to authenticity in Madden NFL 17,” a senior publicist for EA Sports told GameSpot. “Overall, our new commentary will primarily center around on-field functionality, as well as important news like trades, free agency signings, and injuries.”
Rather of applying legendary announcers like Madden himself or Jim Nantz, EA Sports handed the Madden 17 microphones to Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis. Those two college football veterans will likely be need to be careful with how they mention Kaepernick’s social justice stance.
